Bio
Jay Merrill is a Kansas-based wildlife and landscape photographer whose passion for nature began on a diversified farm in rural Kansas. Raised with a deep connection to the land, Jay developed an early appreciation for wildlife, natural ecosystems, and the importance of conservation. His parents encouraged outdoor exploration and instilled in him a lifelong respect for the environment and responsible stewardship of natural resources.
Jay earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture from Kansas State University, further strengthening his understanding of the relationship between people, land, and wildlife. Together with his wife, he enjoys traveling to experience the beauty of nature, often venturing out during the quiet hours of early morning and late evening when wildlife and landscapes reveal their most intimate and captivating moments.
Through his photography, Jay strives to share those special encounters and inspire others to appreciate the natural world around them. His goal is to create images that foster a deeper connection to wildlife, wild places, and local communities while encouraging support for conservation efforts. He hopes his photographs not only capture memorable moments but also motivate others to share those experiences and become advocates for protecting the natural resources that enrich our lives.
Jay is a member of the National Audubon Society, Audubon of Kansas, the International Crane Foundation, and the North American Nature Photography Association (NANPA).
